Red Jacket starts the Melbourne to Osaka Race

The 2018 Melbourne to Osaka double handed yacht race left Portsea in Port Phillip Bay on Monday 26th March.  The scheduled start was postponed due to strong winds over the previous weekend.

Skipper of Red Jacket, Annette Hesselmans and co skipper and partner Gerry Snyders, will journey about 5500 nautical miles in their Radford 12.2 to reach Osaka in April.  Annette is a highly experience yachtswoman and no stranger to long periods on the water. She and Gerry have travelled extensively on their previous boats and look forward to the challenge of this long-distance race.

Annette is a strong advocate for women in sailing and wants to encourage females into the sport to achieve at all levels, cruising or racing.  Sailing gear for women and girls share these values and wish Anette and Gerry success in their adventure.
